Ukhrul DHQ celebrates 79th Independence day 2025

The Ukhrul District Administration today joined the nation in celebrating the 79th Independence Day with grandeur at Bakshi Ground, Dungrei. The event showcased a vibrant mix of patriotism, cultural heritage, and public participation.

Deputy Commissioner Shri Asish Das, IAS, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, hoisting the national flag and taking the salute in the presence of SP Shri Ningshem Vashum, IPS, district-level officers, civil society organisations, and hundreds of citizens.

In his address, Shri Das paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifice liberated India from British rule. “Their sacrifices paved the way for the democratic, diverse and sovereign India we are proud of today,” he said. Reflecting on local progress, he noted that the past year had been marked by impactful developmental initiatives, greater visibility at state and national platforms, and a commitment to transparent governance, community engagement, and sustainable growth. “Let Ukhrul not be known by what it lacks but by what it dares to dream,” he concluded.

The celebration also featured a colourful cultural segment, including a Tangkhul Naga dance by the Soraphung Cultural Dance Troupe, a role play on the Right to Education by Sihai Khunou Primary School, a martial arts display by Ukhrul District Karate-Do Association, and a band performance by the 18th Assam Rifles.

In recognition of dedicated public service, the administration presented 96 appreciation certificates to outstanding departmental employees. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Smt Polly Makan, MCS, ADM/ADC Ukhrul, bringing the day’s proceedings to a close on a note of unity and celebration.
