Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)

In Manipur the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was launched on 2nd October, 1975 at Ukhrul TD Block in Ukhrul District under Central Sector. Now, the scheme has been expanded throughout the entire State covering all the CD/TD Blocks with 1(one) State ICDS Cell and 8(eight) District Cells under Cent Percent Centrally Sponsored Scheme. There are 42 ICDS Projects operational in Manipur which includes 9(nine) Rural Projects, 1(one) Urban Project and 32 (thirty two) Tribal Projects under which 9958 Anganwadi Centres and 1552 Mini Anganwadi Centres as approved by Government of India, have been functioning through Anganwadi Workers/Helpers and Mini Anganwadi Workers in each centre.

SUPPLEMENTARY NUTRITION PROGRAMME

Under the revised Nutritional and Feeding norms which have been made effective from February 2009, State Government has been providing 300 days of supplementary food to the beneficiaries in a year which would entail giving more than one meal to the children from 3-6 years who visit AWCs. This includes morning snacks in the form of micro-nutrient fortified food followed by a hot cooked meal (HCM). For children below 3 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers, Take Home Rations (THRs) in the form of ready-to-eat food/ Food grains are provided. Besides, for severely underweight children in the age group of 6 months to 6 years, additional food items in the form of micronutrient fortified food and/or energy dense food as THR is provided.

Upgradation of Anganwadi Centre:

The Ministry of Women & Child Development has sanctioned a sum of Rs.1800.00 lakh for up-gradation of 1000 Nos. of AW Centre building @ Rs.2.00 lakh per AWC as 90% Central Share during 2017-18 and the same amount was encashed during 2020-21 and Rs.2.00 lakh of the 10% State Share also encashed for up-gradation of 1000 Anganwadi Centres during 2020-21. Physical Progress report is still awaited from the concerned CDPOs.
